This project will build a digital platform to provide mentoring and professional support to young Mexican students, who will be the first women in their family to attend and complete university. The platform will allow us to scale our existing mentoring program. Our goal is to reach 1k female students annually.
Challenge
Young women who live in vulnerable situations lack professional female role models in their families and communities. Because they lack connections to women who can provide them with valuable information to make decisions about their professional future, these young women often stop studying before they graduate, or pursue studies in either underpaid professions or professions with high levels of unemployment. This negatively impacts their social mobility and their chances to escape poverty.
Long-Term Impact
The presence of female role models is a key factor in young women deciding to continue studying until they complete university. Role models show that it is both possible and worth doing. Role models help students make strategic decisions to pursue studies that lead to greater employability and higher salaries. Deciding to stay in school and making strategic career decisions allows young women to gain social mobility that allows them to escape poverty and cycles of violence. You make this happen.
