Colombia registers the highest number in its history as a host country for Venezuelan immigrants. Most of them come into the country illegally, making it almost impossible to access basic healthcare among other necessities. Even though the Covid-19 crisis has worsened everyone's situation, in 2020 Patronato Foundation had 37 Venezuelan beneficiaries who received 219 health related services. Help us keep providing comprehensive health-care services, to immigrant children from Venezuela.
Challenge
Colombia registers the highest number in its history as a host country for Venezuelan immigrants. According to UNHCR figures, it is estimated that of the 1.7 million Venezuelans in Colombia, more than half have entered the country through unauthorized border crossings, exposing themselves to risky situations such as human trafficking, extortion, discrimination, violence, and expulsion from the country. Also, they cannot access essential services such as free healthcare.
Long-Term Impact
The project seeks to provide timely assistance to reduce the long-term damage and negative effects on health because of the lack of quality medical care. The lives of 40 immigrant families made up of 230 members will be impacted. Through the accompaniment of mothers, it will contribute to the regularization of more Venezuelan families in Colombia and with this improve their living conditions.
