Bali is a growing child sex tourism destination, and many children sold in Bali brothels are from East Java. Right now, this region offers no safe place for child sex trafficking survivors. Compassion First is a leader in providing long-term care in Indonesia for girls who have been rescued from this horrific trauma. A shelter provides a sustainable model for rescue and restoration that changes the trafficking landscape of a region. (Photos of survivors may be changed for protection.)
Challenge
Bali is an international child sex tourism destination for Westerners, and many children sold in Bali are from East Java. This region of 40 million people offers no place for child sex trafficking survivors. Police are not rescuing children because there is no long-term shelter for them to go to. Our work in East Java has granted us tremendous relationship with local authorities; so much so, that we have gained an invitation to open a full aftercare center for child survivors.
Long-Term Impact
Compassion First is a leader in providing long-term care in Indonesia for girls who have been rescued from the horrific trauma of sex trafficking. East Java law enforcement officials are pleading with us to open a shelter and conduct anti-trafficking police training. A shelter provides a sustainable model for rescue and restoration that disrupts trafficking patterns. With a safe place to take children, Indonesian police become motivated and empowered to arrest traffickers and bring girls home.
