Semillas Incubator changes the lives of people helping them develop entrepreneurial skills to start microbusinesses based on solidarity and social responsibility. Because of current challenges, and to facilitate our services in social distance times, we will start a Virtual Business Training Cycle with 19 workshops on business topics and over 80 hours of one-on-one business consulting to 35 participants. They will increase and strengthen their business knowledge and skills to be successful.

Challenge

Data from the Department of Labor in Puerto Rico states the unemployment rate in 7.3% in July 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Arecibo North area where Casa sin Fronteras is located the unemployment rate for June 2020 is 8.8%. Many people decide to start a business looking for options to improve their situation. Without the proper knowledge of business management, they can become failed ventures. Microbusiness owners need training and support to have successful enterprises.

Long-Term Impact

For 6 years Semillas Incubator have successfully trained and coached budding entrepreneurs. Now this first virtual cycle can increase the number of participants and their location, they can connect from other parts of the island. Each one will finish in a different stage of the process: business plan ready, permits approved, or running their businesses. We help them improve and keep their businesses afloat, contributing to the overall wellbeing of the community, and the formal economy.
