The project will build a geriatric home in Kuje Area Council a densely populated rural settlement in the federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria to house and retain aged population for care, diagnosis and treatment of geriatric diseases & ailments, and create support network, social interaction, knowledge & experience sharing among the aged in Kuje. The project will utilize an available land space strategically situated within a clustered population of poor, marginalized and disadvantaged aged.
Challenge
Kuje area council has a large number of clustered aged population, who are mostly marginalized from interventions targeted at alleviating health and livelihood challenges. Despite the health and social fragility of old age, the aged often resort to streets begging, majorly for money, food, clothes and shelter for survival. All these have aggregated into insecurity, social deprivation, poor health, increased morbidity and mortality. The project will affect 50 disadvantaged aged residing in kuje.
Long-Term Impact
The project will provide a social and health care facility for 50 aged persons facility to improve health and social well-being of the aged population within and around Kuje Area Council. This will reduce street begging, exploitation and social deprivation of the aged in Kuje,Nigeria.
