Kucetekela Foundation pays the school fees of its students in secondary school and then helps them apply to tertiary opportunities. Our biggest barriers in tertiary applications include the fees that students are required to pay to take entrance exams for international universities (SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests, TOEFL, etc.) and the application fees to the universities themselves. This project will help up to ten students each year apply to tertiary programs of their choice.

Challenge

Between application fees and exam fees, the cost of applying to tertiary programs abroad is substantial. Though our students are prepared to study abroad for university (thus magnifying the impact of their secondary school scholarship), they cannot afford international exam or application fees. If provided with adequate resources, our students would be able to access more tertiary educational opportunities outside of Zambia and bring those skills back to benefit the communities they come from.

Long-Term Impact

Kucetekela Foundation scholars have already received millions of dollars in tertiary scholarship funding, but in order to be able to receive access to that funding, they need to prepare for and take the requisite entrance exams. Over the next ten years, we could have eighty students write exams to study abroad and empower them to continue their educations in order to return to Zambia and improve their communities. This community impact could end up reaching thousands of Zambians.
