Since 2000, BASICS has committed to its mission in Ghana by protecting the basic human rights of children to education, shelter, food and safety. BASICS aids women and children living in unsafe environments and engaging in harmful activities (illiteracy, child labor, trafficking, child marriage, teenage pregnancy to school dropouts) which hinders their overall health, well-being and developmental growth. Our programs provide access to education, skills and opportunities to empower.
Challenge
Over the next 10 years, B.A.S.I.C.S will sustain its programs whilst building on its accomplishments to scale and expand its access to service many more children and communities in need. It has taken 365 days every year across 20 years to understand our communities and our organization. The next 10 years will have a focus on expanding access to quality education to underserved communities and improving school retention for all children attending school and the B.A.S.I.C.S programs.
Long-Term Impact
Our goal is to give each child the opportunity to reach University level, but ultimately be a child. BREAK THE CYCLE Intervention program provides tutoring and mentoring after school to all children in the BASICS program. BACK2SCHOOL is a school sponsorship program which provides access to quality education . AKLOWAH Meaning Village in 'Ga' is a fresh-air STEAM based camp situated on eight acres of land that opens up a new world for urban youth during long school breaks and holidays.
