11-month-old Sano was born with a disability. She is missing two bones from her knee down to her foot, the tibia and the fibula, making it impossible for her to ever walk without treatment. She is being raised by a single-mother, who has been left alone by her family and husband because of Sano's disability. Both of them are being isolated from the community. This project aims to cure Sona's disability with medical treatment and integrate the family into society.

Challenge

Mother and daughter face two different kinds of problems: The first being the physical issues. Sano need to see a specialist to treat her. The second problem being the social isolation. The community avoids contact out of fear of contamination. The mother had to drop out of school to raise her child and is currently unemployed, making the only money with small jobs where she can bring Sano. Even this is a challenge, since she can't find jobs, because of discrimination.

Long-Term Impact

We aim to create a life without worries. Access to the community will in general raise mother and daughters hope for the future and a functioning leg will guarantee Sona a normal life, in which should will not be dependent on a wheelchair and help of others. Sona will be able to visit school, make friends and find a job in her later life.
