Since 2008, Shanghai Roots & Shoots KidStrong Program has been dedicated to improving personal health and hygiene of migrant children living in Shanghai. The global COVID-19 pandemic called for KidStrong to respond quickly in order to provide migrant children with resources to protect themselves as well as their families from COVID. Therefore, development of educational toolkits and supplies of PPE have become the new focus of KidStrong.

Challenge

The global pandemic has posed new challenges on us all. Everywhere in the world the vulnerable populations are more susceptible to the impact of COVID-19. At the beginning of the pandemic, migrant children's schools lacked resources to provide PPE to students. As COVID-19 is getting contained in China, we must look beyond and prepare the students to learn to protect themselves from COVID and other infectious diseases for the longer term.

Long-Term Impact

The videos will be shared amongst 4 schools KidStrong currently work with and be offered for free to any school that finds them helpful. An estimate of 5,000 students will be involved. As the pandemic is getting contained around the world, we will keep updating our videos. The information on personal health will hopefully stay with the students and the hygiene practices they develop will generate life-long benefits.
