Pathologic diagnosis is an essential tool in screening and disease prevention programs that contribute to the overall health of communities. Since our organization's programming already aligns with COVID-19 relief/recovery efforts, we're doubling down on this work. We're doing this by advocating for increased funding in diagnostics & laboratories as well as education & training in Africa. We're grateful to be in a situation that allows us to continue serving our community during this crisis.
Challenge
African economies lack the necessary health care infrastructure and resources needed to implement safe and effective diagnosis and treatment programs for their current disease burden, let alone for the additional burden of non-communicable diseases. Urgent action is needed to improve and increase access to cost-effective diagnosis and treatment of a rapidly growing number of diseases and conditions.
Long-Term Impact
Implementation of a sustainable, high quality diagnostic system is a necessary action that needs to be taken in order to address the growing burden on established healthcare resources. ASAP has been and continues to be dedicated to and involved in improving diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine in Africa and have led the path in many successful initiatives.
