The project will help provide Radio Internet Connection at Fortune School of Excellence in Solwezi District of Zambia. This will enable the organization enhance on the provision of digital literacy education and also introduce virtual I.C.T learning for orphans and vulnerable Children in partnership with other organizations such as Tech 4 Change. Internet connection will also help us recruit volunteers who can teach children technology and educational subjects virtually.
Challenge
The penetration levels of I.C.Ts in Zambia's education institutions remains low, with those schools that are equipped mostly utilizing second-hand and refurbished computers but still with no internet connection. The integration of ICTs in learning and teaching practice has been limited due to many factors such as lack of ICT materials and tutors etc. Although the introduction of computer studies in schools as a subject but lack of qualified ICT tutors and ICT materials remains a big challenge.
Long-Term Impact
The project is helping educate 400 orphans and vulnerable children allowing them to remain in school and improve on their life and contribute to development of the community and the national at large. Education opens opportunities in the life of an individual and digital literacy education is very important in the current century and also considering the current technological advancement in both school and work.
