This project guarantees free accommodation for families who have a child affected by cancer and other severe diagnoses during the war. With the construction of the New Dacha Center, 15 families will have guaranteed free accommodation for lengthy treatment. There are no centers like this in Ukraine. Cancer therapy may take months, and families with ill children need a safe place to live during this period to support their children and take care of them properly.
Challenge
Many children with cancer and other serious diseases have lost their homes because of war. They cannot stay in shelters for refugees because of low immunity. Not having a home for an extended treatment period is also psychologically hard. It may harm treatment results and family relations. For children who see doctors' white coats all the time and are subject to painful manipulations, it is happiness to have a place where they have their bed and can cuddle with their mommy.
Long-Term Impact
Zaporuka Foundation provides free accommodation for at least 100 families per year, ensuring home comforts for sick children and preserving families because spouses don't have to live separately as it happens in the hospital, which may result in relationship difficulties or even divorces. The same refers to siblings who may feel abandoned if they don't spend enough time with their parents concentrating their attention on a sick child.
