Russia has invaded Ukraine. This war will affect millions. As the war destroys Ukraine, the most vulnerable people will suffer. About 100,000 children live in about 650 residential institutions nationwide. Many of these are children who have physical and learning disabilities. Many have no primary carers. Many are unlikely to have a chance to flee and seek refuge elsewhere as the war approaches. These children living in specialized institutions should not be the forgotten victims of this war.
Challenge
We help orphanages cover their needs in the absence of proper state funding. In wartime, these facilities suffer even more. Institutionalized disabled children are now extremely vulnerable. State funding priorities change in war. Specialized institutions are unlikely to be able to create the proper conditions for living and studying for their students. Supplies shortages are expected, and living costs will increase. This places added pressure on already underfunded institutions.
Long-Term Impact
Even if the invasion of Ukraine ended today, it will leave thousands of children orphaned. These children will rely on orphanages for survival. As a result, the need for proper functioning and equipped specialized institutions is urgent. By helping Bright Kids Charity provide the necessities for orphanages, you are sharing the message that these children matter, that their lives matter and that they have a chance for a brighter future. A caring environment and an education can change a life.
