This Project will help empower over 100 poor, uneducated young girls and women to study and learn new skills to become self sufficient and start a new life full of respect for themselves. The project provides various vocational training's like tailoring, beauticians, handicraft, nursing and spoken English. It will also help women who cant leave their homes for jobs to learn a skill and practice it within their reachable environment and earn some money for themselves and their children.

Challenge

All across Goa there are hundreds and thousands of women and young girls who are unemployed as they have no vocational training to do any form of professional work. Many of them are not permitted to leave their homes and go to work. Due to this the poverty level is very high as a lot of them cannot provide any financial help to their families. The self esteem of these women and girls is very low because they consider themselves useless and unemployed.

Long-Term Impact

Our aim is to teach women the importance financial prudence and that education can change their lives for better. "All I did was housework," says Sobha, "but then I heard of this centre." Sobha has regularly been coming to the centre where she learnt sewing and started her own little home-based business, accepting orders for stitching clothes. 'Netra first did a beautician's course at the centre and worked in a parlour in Margao for on-the-job training. She also learnt the art of henna design.
