The project offers 50 young people alternative and enriching activities out of school hours to prevent their involvement with gang culture in the low income communities (favelas) of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Challenge

Like most low income communities in Rio de Janeiro, Julio Otoni is heavily exposed to criminal gangs, drugs and guns. Due in part to the lack of alternatives in the community,it is not at all unusual for children as young as 12 to become involved with gang culture. The project engages these young people in activities such as Computing, English, Capoeira, Dance and Arts. The project is always in need to have funding to sponsor a child. Please sponsor a child monthly.

Long-Term Impact

Allows 50 young people to receive education and participate in activities they would otherwise not have access to, providing them with a basis to develop their self-esteem and skills for the future and prevent their involvement with Drug Trafficking
