Child Rescue Kenya has worked with many youths over the years. Increasingly, we are moving into the field of prevention - preventing children from running away or ending up on the streets - and we have realised that the best way to achieve this is through ensuring employment possibilities for youths and young parents, achieved through vocational and life skills training programmes.

Challenge

There are a number of problems that have seen a rise in youths on the streets, not accessing education and unable to find employment. The problems include a high younger population, urbanisation, cost of school fees for higher education and high unemployment. This gives rise to more youths 'hustling' on the streets and higher poverty and stress levels in families causing more children to run away to the streets.

Long-Term Impact

Long-term, more families will become self-reliant and be able to escape the cycle of poverty while our mentoring programmes will also strengthen family bonds and impact the numbers of children living on the streets in a positive way.
