This project will create a resource hub, skill center and safe space for at least 1240 vulnerable women and girls in the Maasai community in Isara. They lack a safe space for psycho social support, skills for sustainable livelihoods, and resources to support adolescent reproductive health and teen mothers waiting to return to school. The Kenyan government has closed schools and as a result adolescent girls have had a high pregnancy rate due to lack of activities and spaces to engage them.
Challenge
In 2020 the reported statistics of pregnancies by school going girls between January - May 2020 is over 1530 girls in rural Kajiado. High levels of poverty persist due to low literacy among women and girls, which is exacerbated by the patriarchal culture of the Maasai community; where men are the sole decision makers. Women rights violation is high demonstrated by FGM practice, domestic violence, early marriages, lack of body autonomy. These women lack space & social services to actively engage.
Long-Term Impact
Gender equality & equity. To have a vibrant community where women and girls participate in social economic activities & skills training. Increase in girls school retention and successful completion. Provide the community access to technology that adds value to learning and empowers students to have global connectivity. Increase in knowledge and access to information on reproductive health and general well being. Access to justice through clear and simple information about laws & rights.
