Established in 1979, the School for Peace is an integral part of the village's mission to build relationships between Palestinians and Jews through communication and respect. Since 1979, over 60,000 people-Palestinian and Israeli, youth and adults-with diverse and often diametrically opposed ideological backgrounds have participated in youth encounter workshops, university courses, teacher and facilitator training.

Challenge

In Israel, young people grow up with a historical and political conflict that greatly impacts their lives. Through the media, they are often taught to distrust and disregard the other side. This project brings 110 high-school students (half Palestinian, half Jewish) together for a 3-day encounter.

Long-Term Impact

The School for Peace concluded workshops for the Jewish and Arab high school students. These workshops were transformative experiences, revealing the fear and lack of knowledge on both sides, and the ability for two diverse groups to reach some significant agreements, given the opportunity to Jews and Arabs young people to accept each other. Learn to put away their differences and attempt to find a common ground to get along and live together in peace and equality.
