The Khoja Mohammad Parsa primary school is located in one of the poorest districts of the Afghan capital of Kabul. The school building and the sanitary facilities for the around 600 students are in such a desolate condition that the children were evacuated to a neighboring school. Together with our local partner OASE, we plan to build new classrooms and sanitary facilities. In addition, we will implement hygiene workshops and trainings for teachers.
Challenge
The school building, as well as the associated latrines, are in such a desolate condition that the school had to be evacuated. Currently the students are taught at the Aryana highschool, where the teaching capacities are limited. At the Mohammad Parsa primary school many teaching methods are outdated and the courses are not very diverse, as there is a lack of training opportunities for teachers. Neither a proper learning environment nor the appropriate quality of learning are given.
Long-Term Impact
The project will provide around 600 students with a healthy learning environment and allows them to receive an appropriate quality education. At the end of the project, there will also be a small program to create ownership in the entire school community. This means that they can identify with the new structures and develop personal responsibility. This shall create a feeling of belonging and pride towards the school and helps motivate everyone to attend school and maintain the structures.
