The School for Justice programme is a programme that started in Nepal in 2019 and targets survivors who fell victim to sexual exploitation of children (SEC) as a minor (but can now be young adults) in which they become change agents and assist in combatting/preventing SEC and raising awareness on SEC locally. To empower survivors to become change agents and speak up about the issue of SEC, they are provided with education in a humanitarian direction (journalism, law, social work, etc.) as we
Challenge
Sexual exploitation is prevalent in Nepal. Reporting on sexual exploitation of children in Nepal is low; only about 5%-10% of all survivors file complaints against traffickers , despite the high number of girls believed to be trafficked. In general, it can be said that societal depiction of SEC victims prevent girls from filing cases and that the laws do not target all forms of human trafficking and lack important enforcement procedures, such as procedures aimed at victim identification.
Long-Term Impact
Victims of SEC that finished the SFJ program know how to support and inspire other victims of SEC, to create awareness on SEC in their country and/or community and therewith prevent and combat SEC.
