During times of crisis, Terre des Hommes Netherlands works quickly to provide life-saving assistance to children and their families. Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to provide comprehensive child protection services, SGBV prevention and response services as well as psychosocial support to the victims of conflict in the North Shewa Zone of Amhara region. Through the project initiatives, 15,000 individuals (2400 women, 6000 girls, 1600 men and 5000 boys ) will be supported.
Challenge
The conflict in Ethiopia has claimed many lives, resulting in massive destruction of homes and infrastructure in addition to impacting the safety and well-being of hundreds of thousands of people. Thousands of schools have been damaged or destroyed while many other schools are sheltering IDPs depriving children of their rights to an education. Overall, it is estimated that close to 3 million boys and girls across Tigray, Afar and Amhara regions have missed out on learning opportunities.
Long-Term Impact
The project will enable the communities affected by the war to recover their livelihoods and adopt a more stable life as they recover from the impacts of the war. Through the project initiatives, 15,000 individuals (2400 women, 6000 girls, 1600 men and 5000 boys ) will be supported.
