This project aims to raise donations and Zakat (Obligatory Muslim Charity) to provide funds for the treatment of 200 pre-mature babies and neonates fighting for life in NICU. The treatment in NICU involves expensive procedures and medicines varying from $300 to $1200 depending on the severity of condition of the baby, which poor parents are unable to afford. With the help of donations and zakat we provide free treatment in our NICU at Al-Mustafa Medical Centre, Karachi and help save lives.
Challenge
According to UNICEF Pakistan has one of the highest Neonatal Mortality Rate i-e 42 babies die out of every 1000 live births in first 28 days of birth. Poor nutrition, lack of hygienic practices during labor, lack of NICU facilities in government hospitals are the reasons that the neonatal mortality rate is highest among the lower class of the country. Parents are unable to afford the higher cost of NICU in private hospitals and thus helplessly see their little angels drift away from them.
Long-Term Impact
This project will enable us to play our part in decreasing the Neonatal-Mortality Rate in Pakistan by providing quality health care solutions to those parents who otherwise are unable to save their children due to their financial circumstances and unavailability of public healthcare facilities. Not only do we help saving lives but providing on-time treatments will save babies from many illnesses and complexities which could occur later in life if they are left untreated at the time of birth.
