In Mexico, domestic violence in quarantine increased by 120% within vulnerable families. This project will help 75 families, equivalent to 300 family members, from marginal urban municipalities of Mexico City through digital sessions by a team of experts, who will provide strategies for the detection and reduction of stress, resources for recognition and emotional regulation, positive discipline without violence, and tools for positive interaction between caregivers and children.
Challenge
In Mexico, domestic violence increased 120% since the COVID quarantine began. The health contingency is already negatively affecting vulnerable families; high levels of stress derived from fear, financial situation and uncertainty culminate in the lack of self-regulatory actions. This adverse effect has a greater impact on GIRLS, YOUNGER BOYS, and PREGNANT WOMEN. This project will provide emotional regulation and stress reduction strategies to 75 vulnerable families, 300 family members.
Long-Term Impact
The project will train parents about the toxic effect of violent discipline and stress in childrens and will provide stress reduction strategies. This will reinforce parents' capacities in 150 mothers and fathers, allowing them to attend their emotional needs and theirs's children through self-regulation skills. 150 children will practice the recognition and management of their emotions. This will provide a different context within families, PREVENTING VIOLENCE AND ABUSE IN CHILDREN.
