You can make a real difference and help transform the lives of an unpaid carer and their loved one by donating to our project so they can borrow an activity product from the BizzyBox Lending Library! These specially designed products, including puzzles, comfort pets, hug buddies and musical teddy bears can be of great benefit and stimulation to those living with dementia, recovering from a stroke or heart attack, or living with autism or a learning disability.

Challenge

The products available for carers to borrow can help their loved ones restore motor functions and fine motor skills, and also prompt conversations and reminiscence. Carers looking after loved ones living with conditions such as dementia, autism or a learning disability were telling us that they often had problems engaging with activities together.

Long-Term Impact

As well as the benefit of the products, carers have had the opportunity to socialise at "try-out" events. A carer who attended a recent one said: "Thank you for such a lovely 2 hours of distraction from my complex life so I could share time with people". The project will also create volunteering opportunities, with carers volunteering their time sewing labels on, and cleaning the products. This has helped them return to the community after the pandemic and boosted their self-esteem.
