In most part of Ghana, thousands of disabled children are neglected with the misconception that disabled children are possessed by "evil spirits". Some are left on the streets or by the rivers to die and their single or widowed mom's treated as outcasts. These disabled children are maltreated and physically abused to the point of death. This project seeks to recue and save the lives of these children and their families by providing food, clothing and shelter. No disabled child deserves to die!
Challenge
In mostly the Northern and Volta region of Ghana, disabled children are deemed to be a curse, disgrace, evil and bad-luck. Most of them are maltreated to the point of death. They are left by the river side to die or left at the foot of anthills or under big trees in the misconception that their ancestors would come back for them. These disabled children with their single or widowed mom's are treated as outcast in their community and they lack basic necessities; food, clothing, shelter to live.
Long-Term Impact
The project will feed 1000 disabled children who are malnourished as a result of neglect and provide shelters for their daily living. Special education teachers will be will be brought onboard to help these disabled children reach their fullest potential. The project will also educate these disabled children's single and widowed mothers and allow them to start a trade to be able to provide for their families.
