Imagine battling child malnutrition without any hope of a helping hand to prevent early death! Unfortunately, this is the story of over 2 million children in Uganda. The situation is even dire with COVID-19. As Child and Family Foundation Uganda, working with community health workers and peer mothers, we seek your donation to identify 600 malnourished children this year and provide them with healthcare and nutrition support to restore healthy growth and prevent death. Donate now.
Challenge
In Uganda, over two million children below five years have poor nutrition and close to 300,000 are severely malnourished. Less than 30,000 severely malnourished access treatment to survive and transform into appropriate nutrition state. Mothers of such children are not aware of malnutrition until late stage when the child develops complications and the health care services are limited in communities to reach and identify such children to access hospital treatment before severe illness or death.
Long-Term Impact
This project will identify and treat 600 malnourished children in one year in order to restore health, growth and development, school performance and ensure productive adults in society. The children's mothers will be educated on good nutrition and disease prevention, child care and urban vegetable production to ensure livelihoods. The community health workers will gain knowledge on community assessment and screening of childhood malnutrition.
