This project aims to keep a private school and orphanage from closure, following the impact of covid on income from fee-paying pupils. This project aims to support the school with its immediate shortfall in income and to help to build a sustainable cost and revenue model to provide long term security for the children it serves. Closure of the school would leave 30 orphans without a home, care, food or education and a further 20 orphans would be without education.
Challenge
The school has provided quality education in Kitengela, Kajiado county, for over 20 years. There are 40 fee-paying pupils. 30 children board at the school & are wholly dependent on non-fee-paying orphans. A further 20 orphans attend the school without paying fees. The School has managed to balance charitable support for these orphans with the fees from their private school pupils. Because of covid, the school is under pressure to admit children from ultra-poor & refugees risking closure.
Long-Term Impact
The project also aims to support the school in gaining accreditations, recognition for high educational standards, and developing quality facilities. This will reinforce the school's reputation and build a pipeline for future fee-paying pupils. Furthermore, we will explore opportunities for income diversification and investment in facilities that either reduce running costs or provide assets that could be rented out during school holidays.
