This project will provide culturally sensitive life transforming trauma counseling programs to South Sudanese refugees who have been traumatized by civil and tribal tensions and have fled to the neighboring nation of Uganda and are living in refugee settlements.
Challenge
Right now, there are over 1,400,000 refugees in Uganda. The majority of refugees are from South Sudan. Civil unrest, tribal divisions and violence have caused many to run to the neighboring nation of Uganda. Many have experienced and witnessed extreme forms of violence including rape. The hidden wounds of war are internal and are often neglected in refugee response plans. Trauma can lead to depression, anxiety, addictions and other concerns that can have devastating long term affects.
Long-Term Impact
This project will provide alleviation of trauma of 450 refugees and refugee leaders from South Sudan. The program addresses emotional resilience and forgiveness. This will address and assist in reconciliation and greater understanding between tribes. This will have a positive long term impact for the future of the nation of South Sudan. No one should have to suffer from hidden wounds of war. We can alleviate the trauma of each refugee so they can have a bright, hopeful and free future.
