Working in some of the planet's most extreme and dangerous environments, wildlife rangers do one of the toughest jobs in the world. These brave men and women work tirelessly day and night in often hostile conditions to protect wildlife on the front line of conservation. David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) directly funds projects that support ranger welfare and rangers in their daily roles, helping to ensure they get the vital field equipment and expert training they need.

Challenge

The illegal trade in wildlife continues to grow and poachers are often heavily armed and highly organised. Rangers are fighting a war against wildlife crime and sadly in the last ten years 1,000 rangers have died doing their jobs. The role of a wildlife ranger is vital if we are to turn the tide against wildlife crime. Without wildlife rangers, there would be no hope for critically endangered species like rhinos, tigers and elephants.

Long-Term Impact

By funding wildlife rangers, DSWF aspires to create a world in which humans can live in harmony alongside wildlife. The role of wildlife rangers is more important than ever before to protect habitats and wildlife across the world. By providing direct benefits such as raincoats, torches, rations and communication equipment we provide the men and women on the front line with the tools needed to protect the wildlife we all love and enjoy.
