This project seeks to support, transport and accommodate over 7,000 woman receiving cancer treatment at the only cancer treatment hospital in Uganda- women who are mostly from the rural regions with little to no access to financial support to afford accommodate and transport themselves while receiving treatment.
Challenge
In 2018 in Uganda, 32,617 people were diagnosed with cancer, 6,413 with cervical cancer and 2,318 breast cancer. We only have one (1) cancer hospital in Uganda at the city centre. A number of rural women fail to get resources to go for treatment at that hospital and those who are able to cannot afford accommodation within the hospital and therefore spend nights sleeping at the hospital floors and corridors. This project seeks to offer support to 7,000 women annually reducing the burden.
Long-Term Impact
This project will offer patient relief to over 7,000 women annually while empowering them through income generating programs and new skill sets to ensure they continue to provide and support their families. It will also create the right amount of awareness within communities and the country at large with support from partners, media houses and well-wishers with an aim in reducing the risk of cancer.
