The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in India have been especially hard on the poor. The country has the third-largest number of COVID-19 cases in the world, and the number of new infections and daily deaths continues to rise. Many of the poor have had little food to eat during this time, and many in the urban slums are even on the verge of starvation. It is a slow-moving disaster that may mean thousands of Indians die of hunger-related causes.

In response to the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic and over 2 years of lockdowns in India, SevaChild donors have been providing food rations to poor families in numerous rural areas of India. Your contributions has reached literally thousands of hungry families and their are thousands more still in need. A $25 donation will provide lentils, rice, wheat flour, cooking oil, tea leaves, sugar, and essentials like masks and sanitary napkins for a family of five for four weeks.

Challenge

The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in India have been especially hard on the poor. The country has the third-largest number of COVID-19 cases in the world, and the number of new infections and daily deaths continues to rise. Many of the poor have had little food to eat during this time, and many in the urban slums are even on the verge of starvation. It is a slow-moving disaster that may mean thousands of Indians die of hunger-related causes.

Long-Term Impact

This project is providing life-saving food supplies for thousands of families in 11 remote areas of India. Enough monthly donations would mean extending the emergency food supply program through the economic recovery period after over 2 years of lockdowns. The loss of income due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns will impact rural Indian families for some time to come. Your monthly donations will help ensure that they have adequate food to see them through.
