Two schools for vulnerable, disadvantaged children from poor families that have operated for 10 years in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Cambodia need donors. Administered by a registered NGO of 25 years, Salvation Centre Cambodia (SCC), the schools teach English, Maths, Agriculture, Music to 135 students for free. Without these schools, the children will have reduced opportunities to pursue further education, get well-paid jobs and help lift their families, communities and country out of poverty.

Challenge

Without free education children from poor families usually don't get jobs with good incomes, don't go onto tertiary education, don't bring change to their communities, don't eat healthy nutritious food, have ongoing health problems such as diabetes and are forever stuck in the revolving door of poverty. UNESCO says that education must reach the poorest in order to maximise its benefits and reduce income inequality. The students are intelligent. If nurtured this resource is their future.

Long-Term Impact

Teaching English at SCC has and will continue to give ex-students job opportunities in many occupations and aid their transition to tertiary studies. SCC's mantra is: Give a child education and you sustain them for a lifetime. SCC partners with international humanitarian organizations such as Bread for the World by hosting long-term volunteers, sharing resources and raising awareness. SCC's family engagement improves hygiene and eating habits. Educated children can change Cambodia bit by bit.
