Jafra aims to improve the lives of young Palestinian refugees in camps through the deployment of sports as a developmental tool. Sports in general has long proved its ability to bring people together and promote physical and mental health, while also enhancing leadership and teamwork skills within participants. Our project will secure the chance for 100 Palestinian refugees aged under 18 to take part in various Footballing activities over 4 locations.

Challenge

Today, given the ongoing economic crisis in Lebanon, Palestinian refugees across camps have been left with a greater challenge to preserve their resilience and ability to ensure a positive development of children and youth. Poverty rates have extensively risen reaching extremely worrying numbers, while Palestinian refugees in Lebanon have historically been facing social exclusion, through being barred from enjoying most civil and socio-economic rights, many youth tend to negative behaviors.

Long-Term Impact

Sport has the potential to have long-term effects on people's personalities. Football is one tool that can improve the self-esteem and confidence of youth refugees across camps, and help them to fight negative behaviors. Additionally, the leadership and teamwork skills that the refugees will gain will play a major role in transforming them into active citizens in their communities and agents of change.
