When adolescents living in institutional shelter turn 18 years old, they have to leave the institution to live an adult, autonomous life. But most of them don't have strong family ties, a job or a place to live. This fund will help those adolescents in such a difficult transition, providing emotional, professional and material support and assisting them in the search for purpose, a job, housing, and how to exercise their citizenship.
Challenge
According to the National Council of Justice, there are, at the moment, more than 5000 adolescents aged 16 and 17 living in foster childcare services in Brazil. When they turn 18, these adolescents need to leave shelters to live on their own. Without government or family support, they face difficulties to transit to this new stage of life and break the cycles of violence and ruptures they have been subjected to
Long-Term Impact
The project makes it possible for young adults disconnected from foster care institutions and living in vulnerable areas to be able to sustain their life projects autonomously, with the possibility of finding a place in the labor market, dignified housing and participating actively and critically in the society in which they live
