Yachana is producing short, educational videos by Douglas McMeekin. You can find then on TikTok www.tiktok.com/@yachana.com Our message is getting to people around the world with over 185,000 followers and viewed over 10 million times. This is raising awareness of our work in Amazon conservation. We own 1,000 hectares (2,500 acres) of rainforest. Funds will go toward purchase of additional forest to protect it and acquire better equipment for the video project.
Challenge
Approximately 17% of the Amazon rainforest has been destroyed. The rainforest of Ecuador is being cut down at a high rate for agriculture. The Amazon is rapidly approaching a tipping point where it could become a savanna. Our videos are reaching millions of people and introducing them to the work of the Foundation and our efforts to protect the rainforest in its natural state. This is a project, not for just one or two communities, but for humanity; future generations.
Long-Term Impact
The forest land will be protected by the Foundation in perpetuity. We have 30 years of experience in forest protection. Land that we do not buy we will work with the local farmers and communities in agriculture and education to guide them toward conservation. And through the videos the world will know what the Foundation is doing in the conservation of the Amazon and how to avoid a critical tipping point.
