The College Socka Bongue, a secondary school in rural Cameroon has fallen into severe decay due to lack of leadership, innovation, and financial investment. The school is in desperate need of revitalization so that it aligns with the needs of today's students. The goal is to transform the school by incorporating modern and sustainable technologies. This will enable the Manengouba Foundation to provide support for new educational programs that will improve the quality of life of new generation.
Challenge
The school's facilities are woefully inadequate for education in the 21st century. The complex consists of 35 classrooms spread across five tired buildings, none of which are conducive to learning and each in dire need of upgrades. Deficiencies include a complete lack of utility infrastructure, including plumbing and electricity; no water drainage management system (causing chronic issues with mold and mildew); a lack of computers and networking systems, and a near-derelict sport complex.
Long-Term Impact
This ambitious renovation project will transform the school into an incubator for growth and development through youth sport and academics. Further, the innovative programs and activities at the school will not be limited to students and teachers. Rather, they will be made available to anyone in the Nkongsamba community. This project will inspire and enable 900 youth and local residents to develop the skills and vision to make the future of their dreams a reality.
