This project aims to overcome a gap in access to education for underserved and low-income communities in the Colombian Caribbean Coast by providing scholarships for college education. The scholarship is awarded at Universidad del Norte, one of Colombia's best-ranked universities. The scholarship includes full enrollment in an undergraduate program, second language full course and maintenance assistance costs (food, transportation, accommodation and study materials) throughout the semester.

Challenge

Two-thirds of high-school graduates in the Colombian Caribbean Coast do not have access to college education. The low number of college-educated individuals contributes to a growing decrement of living standards, lack of job opportunities, absence of committed community leadership, which exacerbate poverty, and stunts development. Thereby, there is a missed opportunity to improve the well-being and competitiveness of the community that can be seized through enabling access to education.

Long-Term Impact

This project aims to educate underserved high-school students from the Colombian Caribbean Coast. Enabling access to education is the first step out of poverty and toward increasing living standards. Educating the next generation of leaders will ensure a positive future for our country.
