The National COVID-19 pandemic lock-down in Uganda has greatly devastated many families, but the families of orphans and vulnerable children are the most hit.Children from these families can hardly access education study materials to facilitate continuous learning because they cannot afford e-learning gadgets like televisions, radios, internet or newspapers. We urgently need your support to help vulnerable rural girls access continuous learning and also to economically empower their families.
Challenge
Continuous learning of vulnerable children in rural areas has become a big challenge during this COVID-19 pandemic lock-down because their families do not have digital gadgets like televisions, radios, computers and internet on which education materials are supplied to facilitate their home schooling, neither can they afford buying daily newspapers to access these education study material. Even after lock down, taking these children back to school will be very difficult for these families.
Long-Term Impact
We believe that if girls are not supported and motivated to keep on learning ,they can easily drop out of school, become victims of early pregnancy or resort to early marriages which can increase their socio economic vulnerability to HIV infection. The project will therefore increase school retention among vulnerable rural girls and safeguard them from teenage pregnancies, early marriages and vulnerability to HIV infection as well as reducing economic vulnerability of their families.
