Due to limited resources, most children in disadvantage communities do not have access to safe and affordable summer / after-school programming to keep them engaged during critical out of school hours. This same demographic of children most likely do not have access to computers, the internet, or professionals to teach them about technology. This means children in disadvantage communities miss out on a lot of learning that could give them an edge in their further education.

Imagine the endless possibilities brought about by providing quality education for children in disadvantaged communities. This microproject will allow children access to computers for summer and after-school STEM programming to learn coding from an expert. Moving forward, these children will have the capacity to understand the technology and learn how to code on computers. After-all, education levels the playing field, allowing everyone to compete.

Challenge

Due to limited resources, most children in disadvantage communities do not have access to safe and affordable summer / after-school programming to keep them engaged during critical out of school hours. This same demographic of children most likely do not have access to computers, the internet, or professionals to teach them about technology. This means children in disadvantage communities miss out on a lot of learning that could give them an edge in their further education.

Long-Term Impact

We are looking at ultimately getting more children from disadvantaged communities ready for future employment in a world that is increasingly digital. It is clear that moving forward, STEM is a field that will provide a myriad of employment opportunities. Most importantly, we are setting our eyes on seeing communities empowered to use technology to find solutions to the problems affecting them. All this will be made possible by investing in the STEM/After-school programming at the primary level.
