This project created a Pediatric Health Center in Veron, an underserved community in Punta Cana, eastern region of the Dominican Republic, for the benefit of more than 15,600 children in need. The child population has been greatly impacted given that there are not affordable options in the entire area in terms of primary health cares. The center offers outpatient consultations; besides dental, vaccination, emergency, laboratory, ambulance, x ray, ultrasound and pharmacy services, among others
Challenge
There are over 15600 children in need who can not afford the private health services. They are more vulnerable to diseases and health complications because of the poor public service of potable water, water treatment system and trash collection at their neighborhoods. Our project built a suitable pediatric center which has the basic equipment but there are still needs to meet and challenges to overcome in order to achieve a higher level of operational performance
Long-Term Impact
For children, the right to health is vital, protecting over 15600 children in need from the diseases (primary health care programs emphasize prevention without excluding the curative care), we are enabling them to develop properly during the childhood and adolescence, so they can reach adulthood in good health and thus contribute to the development of more dynamic and productive society.
