For up to 200 young people in southern Albania every year, access to Nehemiah Gateway's schools and programs expands opportunities, opens doors, and provides a strong and stable foundation to a dignified and self-sufficient existence. Donations to this project support high quality educational programs for Albanian and Albanian Roma students in need, as well as children with special needs, pre-kindergarten through university, at Amaro Tan, Nehemia School, and Nehemiah Gateway University.

Challenge

Although public education is widely available in Albania, not all children succeed in the public school system. Roma students face such pervasive discrimination, most drop out, leaving them at greater risk of being trafficked. Students living in poverty struggle with the hidden costs of public school. Students with special needs must integrate into a system that doesn't offer trained professional support or accessible facilities. Without education they are less likely to build brighter futures.

Long-Term Impact

This project supports the education of up to 200 young people in Pogradec, Albania yearly at risk of falling through the cracks in the public education system, including children living in poverty (over 30% of the population), children from the Roma minority, and children with special needs that aren't accommodated in public schools. A higher level of education gives them more options for employment, independence, and even the skills and resources to give others in their community a hand up.
