This project will support the important work of the Rwanda Down Syndrome Organisation (RDSO), which advocates for the rights of people with Down syndrome in Rwanda.

Challenge

People with Down syndrome in Rwanda face multiple challenges and restrictions of their rights. Stigma and discrimination are very common, with some people hidden away by their families. Early development services are either non-existent or very limited, and they are rejected from almost all mainstream schools. Some are denied essential medical treatment due to having Down syndrome.

Long-Term Impact

By supporting families and people with Down syndrome and advocating for access to key services including education and healthcare, this project will have an enormous positive impact on the lives of people with Down syndrome in Rwanda. Having these rights fulfilled will open up a huge range of opportunities in the long-term, enabling people with Down syndrome to be included in their communities and live healthy, fulfilled lives.
