Eswatini has high rates of gender-based violence and young men need mentorship so they can be the fathers of tomorrow, and grow to be peaceful and respectful men. This project will provide professional skills development for 30 young men and vocational skills training for 15 young men so these young men can develop their professional and vocational skills, and earn steady income. Employment is a key aspect of fulfilment and men who can support their families are less likely to harm them.
Challenge
Youth unemployment has huge personal and social costs, including financial hardship and poverty, family tensions, increased crime rates, shame and stigma. Many young people who are faced with unemployment often find themselves involved in substance abuse which usually results in crime and domestic abuse. Young women deserve men who support and treat themselves and others with respect and this project helps build the underlying professional skills from a young age to help achieve this goal.
Long-Term Impact
With opportunities to drive sustainable economic growth, lower youth unemployment and help mitigate violence and abuse in the household, this project will have a holistic positive impact on individuals and their communities. The project will also provide mentoring opportunities beyond the training workshops which will help to achieve the ultimate goal - for young men to secure dignified work and become respectful husbands and fathers in the future, minimizing a root cause of violence and abuse.
