Fundacion DEHVI supports Costa Rican children under 5 years of age living in poverty and in high risk communities. We offer them high-quality early education inspired by innovatives pedagogies, 4 nutritious meals a day, a safe and secure enviroment, and we help them nurture values & develop life long-skills. We have 6 child centers where we provide this service for 5 days a week through extended hours. This provides the opportunity for their parents to find a job and break from the poverty cycle
Challenge
Poverty in Costa Rica has been increasing over the years in urban populations. Unfortunately children have been directly affected by this. Thirty-four percent of boys and girls in early childhood live in poverty and only 4.2% have access to integral child centers where their basic necessities and developmental needs are able to be satisfied . We work in 5 of these urban communities where poverty and the lack of education need to be fought for the benefit of these children and their families.
Long-Term Impact
This project will impact more than 300 children's lives and their families as well. This project will help us give our boys and girls a strong foundation for their future by providing them with values and life-long skills. By keeping these children in our child centers, we give the opportunity to their parents/caregivers to look for jobs where they can become enconomically stable and therefore break off from the poverty cycle.
