In response to the recent crisis in Gaza, the Village of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam and its American Friends have focused on raising funds to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. By supporting Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam's long-standing Humanitarian Assistance Program, the Oasis of Peace is continuing to seek funds to provide equipment and supplies for primary care assistance to the Al-Shifa Hospital.
Challenge
Al-Shifa hospital is the largest medical complex in Gaza City. In its present condition, it is not able to meet the needs of the thousands of Gazans who depend on it for primary care. Dr. Raid Haj Yahya, a physician, from Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam, volunteers in the Emergency Room of Al-Shifa Hospital. Dr. Yahya will deliver new medical supplies to replace the insufficient, damaged equipment so that we can be part of repairing the hope and health of the children and adults
Long-Term Impact
When a community of Jewish and Palestinian citizens in Israel partners with such a core institution as AlShifa, a bridge is built that carries the first moments of trust and hope. Such a partnership goes beyond the provision of emergency medical care. It offers a platform on which a stable and creative relationship can begin to be built.
