Challenge
Reading is the start of a child's education, but one in every two Indonesian children finishes primary school unable to read and understand simple texts. The Covid-19 pandemic has had an enormous impact on the education of all Indonesian children, especially those in Eastern Indonesia, who have missed almost two full years of schooling. Teachers need tools to enable them to make up for lost time by teaching reading effectively, providing a solid foundation for kids from poor communities.
Long-Term Impact
Reading is the beginning. For the children served it will be the foundation of their education, enabling them to lead happier, healthier, more productive lives. In time, they'll teach their own children to read. We already have evidence that our program works: an external evaluation measured a 54% greater increase in basic literacy skills for kids taught with our curriculum. With your help, we can continue to grow, helping more and more Indonesian children to learn to read, and to love reading.
