This is extended to support women and families who have been affected by the crisis in Bui Division. We want to buy at least 400 3 week-old chickens and give them to 50 women who have been severely victimized by the current socio-political unrest in the North West and South West of Cameroon. The situation is very bad and these women need help by way of being re-integrated. This project is because they lost all they had to the displacement, homes burnt and properties damaged.
Challenge
We have been working with women groups and carrying out a women palm oil project. They are now very organized. These women are very poor and family members do not have common activity to jointly fight against poverty at the level families. As such they only depend on peasant farming while children remain at home because of lack of school needs and other basic needs that cannot be acquired from the farms. The families really lack the capacity to fight against poverty through such activities.
Long-Term Impact
This project will be a recycling type of project because we will ensure that when the chicks and grown to mature, the fowls will be sold and new ones supplied after they must made a reasonable income. It it intended to be a sustainable project which will be continuously recycled. At the moment many families are now supplying the children with basic school needs for their children. A trained veterinary officer has been involved in the project for regular follow up and workshops.
