This holiday season, our goal is to raise $22,000 to build the 1st phase of our youth community centre! The centre will provide access to essential workshops, study areas, counselling rooms and recreation grounds. It will be an amazing boost to girls through services and resources so they can; complete their education, be familiar with reproductive health, build self-confidence, have different options for their future and livelihood, and improve their mental and physical wellness.
Challenge
In Zambia, life for a young girl is challenging, with over 60% of the population living below the poverty line. It is no surprise school dropout begins around the age of 13. Teenage pregnancy, menstruation, or duties around the home often cause girls to abandon their schooling and limit their future income. The Girl Impact was established to tackle these issues, to empower girls and include boys to build an equal future. Our workshops and services are limited to under trees and unused buildings.
Long-Term Impact
The Youth Community Center will directly affect 4 communities. Through study clubs, extra curricula clubs, recreation space, counselling services, skills training, university application support and peer to peer discussions, gender equality will weave through everything we do. Our goal is to see girls, boys, women and men working together to prove that education and proper support can uplift families, communities, and the entire nation of Zambia!
