Empower at-risk kids from the vulnerable community of Carpio in Costa Rica, against gender-based violence by challenging beliefs and attitudes based on stereotyped gender roles. To educate them to better deal with situations associated with gendered violence within their families and community by teaching them alternatives to violence. To promote gender equality by raising awareness of equal human rights for all for a more equal community and world.
Challenge
Stereotyped gender roles and consequent ways of coexistence between men and women promote and exalt sexist socialization of children. In the community of Carpio, sexist imaginaries are strongly rooted. Gender inequity and gendered violence are normalized, internalized and replicated as behavior patterns in children's daily life, weakening thus their self-perception, relationships, and potentialities, hurting them both in the short and long term.
Long-Term Impact
200 kids from the community of Carpio: recognize themselves as subjects of rights with dignity, autonomy, and citizenship regardless of their gender; have better criteria and knowledge to face situations involving gendered violence within their families, community and else; pursue relationships free of gender-based violence; advocate for their rights and equal opportunities wherever they are; understand and embrace that they can pursue any career/occupation/interest regardless of their gender.
