1 million+ children in Zambia are bereaved orphans of HIV - 10% of the population. Many others too are vulnerable, living with distant relatives in very poor and overcrowded houses, working on the streets to support themselves. A dangerous existence -child prostitution is common, as are accidents, abuse and illness. Most cannot afford uniforms, shoes or even pencils to attend school.

Over 600 children benefit from the support and care that Pizz school in Monze offers. Pizz supports orphaned and vulnerable children who may otherwise struggle to go to school. The local team check up on children who are out of school, establish the issues and look to offer help and support to address these. Pupils at Pizz enjoy the benefits of education, friendship, and social support in this caring environment, which offers so much more than just schooling.

Challenge

1 million+ children in Zambia are bereaved orphans of HIV - 10% of the population. Many others too are vulnerable, living with distant relatives in very poor and overcrowded houses, working on the streets to support themselves. A dangerous existence -child prostitution is common, as are accidents, abuse and illness. Most cannot afford uniforms, shoes or even pencils to attend school.

Long-Term Impact

The project is currently providing education and a stable community for more than 600 disadvantaged children in the school itself and a further 90 students in further education. The aim is that they have more opportunity to access employment in the future, allowing them to support themselves and their families.
